The national flower of India, lotus is a sacred and worship-worthy in different religious groups across various regions for time immemorial. Held in high esteem as the symbol of enlightenment and new beginnings, the lotus blossoms out of the muddiest waters yet embodies such purity and beauty – the complete opposite of the environment in which it thrives. Often mistaken for water lilies, lotuses have different structures and only come in hues of pink and white, while lilies come in an abundance of shades. According to some reports, like animals, lotuses can control their temperatures and exist almost independently of their surroundings. It’s no wonder why they’re so characteristically mystical!

Did you know that lotus tattoos are popular amongst people who’ve traveled down life’s darkest tunnels and finally saw the light? These gorgeous flowers don’t only flatter valley beds and look amazing in vases but also represent reemergence. Revered for their resilience and beauty, lotuses remind us that even when surrounded by gloom, the sparks of hope in us can reignite and awaken our light. To the naked eye, flowers are simply the harvest of seeds, but in reality, they are as complex and unique as us humans – Only more colorful. Today we’re diving into the life of one of our favorite exotic spooky flowers: Anthurium!

Ever heard of Anthurium? Yeah, me neither. At least not before delving into this blog. However, I am certain that at least three-quarters of us have seen and touched a type of Anthurium. Also known as flamingo flowers (yes, it does kind of look like the animal), anthuriums are popular leather-textured house plants that come in a wide variety of colors. They make for great gifts, have a few legends centered around them, and are pretty easy to take care of.

Sending your mother, grandmother, or wife a bouquet of flowers for Mother’s Day is the perfect way to say “thank you” and “I love you.” Mother’s Day is all about giving, and each act of love is in appreciation of the mothers and maternal figures who have helped shape and guide us into the people we are today.

I was fortunate enough to have a grandmother who loved tending to her own garden as a child. We would spend our Sundays at a local nursery. Taking our time to browse through the greenery and fresh flowers, eager to take a colorful plant home with us. Once home, my grandmother and I would spend the afternoon in the garden, preparing the soil, digging holes, and getting our hands dirty. We would laugh together and enjoy the unexplainable bond shared between a grandparent and grandchild. These are the memories that I hold dear to my heart. Looking back, it must be the reason why I love flowers and plants so much!

If I were tasked with mentioning all the reasons that make fathers so special and worth celebrating internationally, we would need thousands of scrolls, dozens of durable feathers, and gallons of ink to pen down all the things that pop up when I think of all that fathers represent, hence Father’s Day. Father’s Day rolls by yearly and celebrates fathers in all their glory! Making now the perfect time to learn about the perfect Father’s Day plants to surprise dad!

Fathers do much more than fixing broken cabinets and unclogging congested waste pipes that no one else would dare touch. Their value goes beyond anything you can measure. Good fathers are a rock who fill a variety of roles. Just like there’s no perfect way to be a father, there’s no perfect gift for a dad either. Over time, I’ve seen how a traditional African father’s role grew from traditional decision-maker and breadwinner, to equally involved in the running of the household. With that came a realization that fathers also appreciate ‘soft’ and overly sentimental gifts. Like flowers that were previously only appreciated by women. You can only guess how excited I was to find this little detail out.

When you hear the word “Moldova” what comes to mind? While you may not be familiar with this incredible and exciting country, we highly recommend checking it out and adding it to your travel bucket list. A small country in the heart of Europe that is often overlooked, Moldova’s history can be followed all the way back to the 1350s where it was formerly known as “Bessarabia”, an important piece in the Romanian principality of Moldovia all the way up until 1812!

It wasn’t until 1991 that this small country was finally granted independence as the Republic of Moldova. Despite dealing with certain historical tragedies, it is now a gorgeous country with its government and citizens working hard to beautify it even more so. Moldova boasts hiking trails with breathtaking views, comforting food in charming cafes, and miles of gorgeous flower fields in the summertime.
